Are your dog treats made with natural ingredients?

  • Yes, our dog treats are made with high-quality, natural ingredients. We prioritize using wholesome ingredients that are safe and nutritious for dogs.

Are your dog treats suitable for all dog breeds and sizes?

  • Our dog treats are generally suitable for dogs of all breeds and sizes. However, we recommend supervising your dog while they enjoy their treats, especially if they are a small breed or have specific dietary needs.

 Are your dog treats grain-free?

  • Yes, we offer a variety of grain-free options for dogs with food sensitivities or allergies. Our grain-free treats are made with alternative sources of carbohydrates, such as sweet potatoes or peas.

How should I store freeze-dried dog treats?

  • To maintain freshness, we recommend storing our freeze-dried dog treats in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. SpaceDog freeze dried treats have a unopened six month shelf life. Once opened, we recommend using the treats within a few weeks. Please keep the bag tightly closed when not in use.

How should I store dehydrated chews?

  • Dehydrated chews should not be kept in humid environments or directly in the sun. For extended storage, you can freeze them.

Can I feed your dog treats to puppies?

  • While many of our treats are suitable for puppies, it's essential to consider their specific nutritional needs. We recommend consulting with your veterinarian before introducing any new treats into your puppy's diet.

Are your dog treats safe for dogs with food allergies?

  • We offer a range of treats to assist with allergies and preferences. Our treats have single- and limited-ingredient options.

How often can I give my dog your treats?

  • Treats should be given in moderation as part of a balanced diet. We recommend following the feeding guidelines provided on the packaging and adjusting the amount of treats based on your dog's size, age, and activity level. Due to the lack of moisture in freeze-dried dog treats, we recommend monitoring water intake when feeding, and adjusting it accordingly.

Can I return or exchange opened bags of dog treats?

  • Due to safety and hygiene reasons, we cannot accept returns or exchanges on opened bags of dog treats. However, if you are unsatisfied with your purchase for any reason, please reach out to us.

Our freeze dried treats and some dehydrated treats are processed and packed in a kitchen that is inspected by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.

Do you offer bulk or wholesale pricing for dog treats?

  • Yes, we offer wholesale pricing options for retailers, groomers, trainers, and other businesses interested in carrying our dog treats. Please email us at hello@spacedogtreats.com for more information.

What's the deal with freeze drying?

A freeze dryer, also known as a lyophilizer, works by removing moisture from various substances, including food, pharmaceuticals, and biological materials, while preserving their structure, flavor, and nutritional value. Here's a breakdown of the process:

  1. Freezing: The first step in freeze-drying is to freeze the material being processed. This freezing step helps preserve the integrity of the material and prepares it for the subsequent drying process. The material is typically placed on trays or shelves inside the freeze dryer's chamber.

  2. Vacuum: Once the material is frozen, the freeze dryer creates a vacuum inside the chamber. This reduces the pressure, which lowers the boiling point of water and allows the frozen moisture to sublimate directly from a solid to a gas without passing through a liquid phase.

  3. Sublimation: As the vacuum is applied, heat is introduced to the frozen material. This causes the ice crystals within the material to sublimate, meaning they transition directly from solid ice to water vapor without melting into liquid water. The water vapor is then removed from the chamber by a vacuum pump.

  4. Condensation: The water vapor removed from the chamber is collected by a condenser, where it is converted back into a solid state. This condensed moisture is usually collected in a separate chamber or container and can be disposed of or reused.

  5. Final Drying: After the majority of the moisture has been removed through sublimation, the material undergoes a final drying stage. This involves gradually raising the temperature inside the chamber to ensure that any remaining moisture is removed from the material, leaving it completely dry.

  6. Packaging: Once the freeze-drying process is complete, the dried material is removed from the freeze dryer and packaged for storage or distribution. Freeze-dried products are lightweight, have a long shelf life, and can be easily rehydrated when needed.

Overall, freeze drying is a gentle and effective method of preserving a wide range of materials, including food, pharmaceuticals, and biological samples, while maintaining their quality and characteristics.
